Windows 95 Internet Connection Wizard

Windows 95 (some versions) has a wizard for configuring an Internet Dial-Up connection. The wizard greatly simplifies the creation of a Windows 95 Dial-Up Networking connection. While the wizard configures your connection to the Internet, it does not automatically configure mail, news or other programs.
Step 1. Locate the Setup Wizard

  • Option 1 - the Internet icon

  • By default, there is an Internet icon on the Windows 95 desktop. Doubleclick the Internet icon and if the window below appears, click Next and continue to step 2. If the window does not appear or there is no Internet icon, then you will need to use Option 2.

  • Option 2 - Launch the wizard in Windows Explorer

  • From the Start button, choose Programs->Windows Explorer.
  • Navigate to My Computer->C drive->Program Files.
  • Doubleclick the folder called ICW - Internet Connection Wizard.
  • Doubleclick icwconn1.exe.
  • Proceed to step 2.
Step 2. Choose Manual for the Setup Options
(If you still have the screen above screen, click Next.)

    1. You will need to enter specific information about Compu-Net, so select the Manual option.
    2. Click Next.
    3. When the "Welcome to Internet Setup" window appears, click Next again.

    4. Select your connection method.

    You have two choices:

    • Select "Connect using my phone line" if you are using a modem or an ISDN modem or ISDN terminal adapter.

    • Select "Connect using my Local Area Network" if you are connecting through your office network or through an ISDN router.
After making your selection, click Next.

    5. Select your mail options

Select "No, I don't want to use Windows Messaging."

    6. Enter Compu-Net's name

For the name of the Service Provider, enter "Compu-Net". Click Next.

    7. Enter the Dial-Up phone number

Enter the local Compu-Net Dial-Up phone number for your area. If you do not know the your local number, goto our access phone number list.

Bring up terminal window after dialing should be UNCHECKED.

    Click Next.

    8. Enter your username and password

Enter the username (login name) and password you selected when you signed up for Compu-Net.

      Your username

Your username or login name is the one you selected on your signup sheet and is part of your email address before the @ symbol. Usernames can be a maximum of 8 letters or numbers, and are always lowercase.

      Your password

Enter the password you selected when signing up. Passwords can be a maximum of 8 letters, numbers, or special characters. Passwords are case-sensitive: uppercase letters and lowercase letters are not the same.

    Click Next when finished.

    9. Set the IP address to automatic.

Compu-Net assigns IP addresses when you connect and login to our system.

Select "My Internet Service Provider automatically assigns me one."

    Click Next.
